At ABC Driving School in Portland, Maine, we do more than teach people how to drive — we empower our community through language, patience, and cultural understanding.
Led by owner and instructor Bashir Shuriye, ABC specializes in helping students from all backgrounds, including those for whom English is not their first language. Classes are offered in Arabic, Somali, and English, and Bashir is known for his innovative teaching methods — using laminated vocabulary sheets with side-by-side translations and simple driving phrases like “push down the brake pedal,” “lane change,” and “slow down.”
